When I sit in front of my computer I don’t open a vein. Sure, writing’s tough, but not that painful. I boot my eight-year-old machine, go to a blank page, then get up and go for a cup of coffee. I’m not thinking about the book or the article while I’m heating up stale coffee in the microwave oven. Rather, I’m thinking about what needs to be done outdoors(it is spring here in northern Vermont, finally.) Or I’m trying to come up with ways to avoid hanging pictures on the wall of our new bedroom, added over the winter and early spring.
I know that while I’m thinking things of that sort, ideas are forming in my subconscious.Ideas of how I am going to move the plot along in a fashion that will keep a reader’s interest, or fleshing out a character, making him or her believable, someone to care about,or abhor, or describing a place that makes the reader comfortable or very very uncomfortable.
I touch the keys when I’m ready – ready to delve deeply into my writers’ inner being, forming sentences into paragraphs, paragraphs into pages, pages into depictions of glory or fear, happiness or pain, all the time keeping my readers in the back of my mind. If I have done this, or more, just perhaps I can call myself a writer.
It appears I misspelled my last name in this submission. It is Tedford.
