You know that “Shoulda said” moment? For me it happens on the drive home or in the middle of the night, as I replay a situation in my head, and wham, I shoulda said…
Valentine’s Day, in modern times, is relegated to candy hearts and little paper greeting cards, and is largely a holiday dedicated to romantic love.
Well, we’re writers, by gosh! We’re creative types who can put a spin on something and make it new. So, here are some suggestions to celebrate a writerly Valentine’s Day: Take a regular old blank card or make one out of a cereal box. Fill your card with compliments to the people you sometimes take for granted, but admire. Send it to them.
Thank the individuals who have been there for you so much you can never repay them for all they’ve done. Think outside the (cereal) box on this one. The person who delivers your mail has to travel through snow, sleet, sun (and other adverse conditions that may or may not start with ‘s’) to deliver your mail. How about some candy hearts and three cheers for that work?
Write a funny story about the relative who is the joker of every family gathering. Recount some of the antics you’ve shared. Send a copy to family members on colorful paper.
Send your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or cousins a long, heartfelt letter. Give someone else the gift of the words you’ve haven’t said out loud.
Not everyone can inspire through the spoken word, but if you give yourself the time to write, your best self will come out. What’s your best tip for sharing the love with your writing?
